Information about CityOriginally named Novonikolayevsk after Tsar Nicholas II, Novosibirsk was founded in 1893 during the construction of the Trans-Siberian Railway bridge over the river Ob. Following the opening of the Turkestan-Siberia Railway, the city became a junction for trains to Central Asia and the Caspian Sea. With a population of almost one and a half million, Novosibirsk is the third largest city in Russia. A cultural capital of Siberia, Novosibirsk houses the Novosibirsk State University, a scientific institute, opera, ballet, and several museums, theaters, and art galleries.

On June 2 2010 Todd Vidamour, a Senior English Language Fellow for Siberia, spoke to a group of English teachers from local schools on effective ways of teaching. Mr. Vidamour brought a learning pyramid and multiple intelligence theory to the teachers’ attention.
