In February two meetings of Tomsk AC movie club were dedicated to the celebration of Black History Month. At first our visitors saw the historical movie “Amistad” directed by Steven Spielberg after William A. Owens’ Slave Mutiny. Then on February, 25 Brendan Mulvihill chose for showing and discussion “The Tuskegee Airmen” by Robert Markowitz. Both films made the impression on the auditory, helped them to learn a lot about Afro-American history and racial antagonisms in the United States, to feel the complexity of these problems in modern society and progress in their solving.
On February, 13 students gathered at Tomsk AC to celebrate St. Valentine’s Day. Last public readings within the framework of the American Literature Year program were also dedicated to the St. Valentine’s Day.Also a new book exhibition dedicated to St. Valentines Day was presented to all who was involved into celebration.
Tomsk AC is continuing the program “American Literature Year” by opening a new literature contest on Frank Baum’s book “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” (See Materials for Visitors). On February,2 employees of Tomsk AC took part in the Conference for high school ESL teachers held by Tomsk Methodological Center. Teachers were told about the rules of the contest and were invited to take part in it.
The final of the regional contest for high school students on American Literature was held at Pushkin Regional Library. The participants – 11 teams from Tomsk and Tomsk region came and gathered in the library conference hall despite of January frosty weather that has set in.
