On February 25-26, 2012, scholarly conference Dialogues and meetings: Russian and American theater in the 20th century will take place at the American corner of the Vologda Academic Library.
Scholars from Yaroslavl, St-Petersburg, Moscow, Vologda will meet to discuss some trends of the theater development in two countries. In the framework of the conference there will be the readings of the plays by contemporary American playwrights. The readings are part of the project "New American Plays for Russia" (author and curator John Freedman, Moscow). The translations of the plays were made by the Center for International Theatre Development supported by the U.S. Embassy in Moscow under the aegis of the U.S.-Russia Bilateral Presidential Commission.
The conference in Vologda was supported by the Fulbright program in Russia and the Consulate General of the United States in St-Petersburg.
The opening of the conference will be held on February 25, 2012, at 11 a.m. at the Bolshoi zal (Big Conference Hall) of the Library (7, Ulyanova street, 2nd floor).
