31.03.2008 18:00 - 19:30 | Lecture: Human Trafficking
Since the fall of the Soviet Union, the rate of human trafficking both out of and within the CIS has risen significantly. The destinations of victims are varied, but their experiences are often the same: forced prostitution, slave labor, violence and debt bondage. Please join me for a talk on the current situation of "modern day slavery" in the former Soviet countries. Lauren McCarthy is a PhD student at the University of Wisconsin. She is in Moscow for the year on a Fulbright scholarship doing research for her dissertation on the implementation of the Russian law criminalizing human trafficking. |
