On the 21st of January the US exchange programs alumni joined American Corner for Saturday discussion and also for viewing the movie 'Dead Poets' Society'. The movie raised many important issues that's why it was really interesting to watch it. The main part in the movie was played by Robin Williams, a very talented and outstanding actor. The alumni had different emotions about the movie. They had an opportunity to meet other members of discussion club and to share with them all the feelings about the movie.

26.12.2011 | The Alumni Meeting

On the 26th of December there was a meeting of the US exchange program alumni in Novosibirsk. The meeting was organized at the American Corner at 5 pm. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the project “Photo exhibition of Minneapolis and Novosibirsk” and select specific photos. The alumni had different ideas regarding the themes of the photos. On the one hand, they thought that there should be photos of parallel views in Minneapolis and Novosibirsk. On the other hand, they were sure that the theme of the photos is not very important, the main thing is to express the mood of the cities.

25.12.2011 | Book Club Performance Of Christmas Stories

On December 25, 2011 a group of Book Club members gave a spirited costumed performance of Christmas stories. The presented vignettes were based on a variety of literary works among which was a well-known all-time classic “A Christmas Tale” by Charles Dickens.

20.12.2011 | Native American Culture. Renewal of Unique And Beautiful Practices

On December 20, 2011 Joanne Munisteri, Senior English Language Fellow for Siberia, spoke about Pow Wows in the United States and the renewal of native American culture. In her presentation Ms. Munisteri highlighted the beauty and uniqueness of American Indian culture and its ties with nature. She ended her talk with a brilliant singing of a genuine Lakota song .

16.12.2011 | American Film Industry. Its Golden Age And Decline

On December 16, 2011 Karen Heimsoth from the U. S. Embassy in Moscow spoke about film industry at the American Corner. Ms. Heimsoth gave an overview of how the industry developed starting from the invention of the first machine for viewing motion pictures. The audience learnt about the film industry’s golden age and its current decline.
