01.06.2010 | "No Future: A social history of American Punk Rock Music (1965-1979) - a presentation by John Mark King
Almost everybody heard about up-to-date punk rock bands like “Green day”, “Nirvana”, “Sum 41”, “Offspring”, “Blink 182” and etc. Loud music, short fast songs, aggressive attitude, simple song structure, similar guitar work- that all is about Punk Rock Music. But that is how it looks today. And what about some history? We learned more about the origin of this style of music. And that was a Lower East Side of New-York city that first conceived Punk-Rock, and the first band that performed in 1974 was “Ramones”.
Furthermore we got acquainted with works of so called fathers of this style - Chuck Berry, Jerry Lewis, Billy John, Bob Dillon. We also learned about Proto-Punk that originated in Detroit in mid 60-70 and the bands “The Velvet Underground”, “Iggy” and so on. This seminar was helpful for everyone who joined it. For adults it was a chance to understand the modern branches of music, and for young people it was a way to get closer to the Punk-Rock Style.
As it was said, you don’t need to be an efficient musician, the only thing that is needed to create a punk music is to have something inside and something interesting to say.
