On May 27 Jeff Rotering, Consular officer U.S. Consulate General in Vladivostok and Richard Beer, Consul General U.S.Embassy in Moscow were guests in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk American. Jeff Rotering represented a theme “The Rural Life in the USA”. We knew about the history of agriculture development in the USA, its present condition and some statistic information of this field. Some conclusions were made – farmers found ways to adapt to the changes of the last century. Those who remained in agriculture increased their efficiency by expanding and specializing their operations to take advantage of economies of scale, or by identifying niche markets to maintain profitability. Others moved out of farming and into other enterprises or occupations, or combined farming with off-farm work, with other family members tapping different sources of income. In some cases, farming has become a secondary occupation, providing a preferred lifestyle rather than a primary source of income. Jeff Rotering took a speech for the forth time at our club, but he promised to visit us again.
