Bookcrossers intentionally leave the books in any public places - cafes, restaurants, shops, hairdressing saloons, hospitals, libraries - where they might find a new reader. It is the way of sharing your favourite books with the public. Each book is assigned a unique number and pasted with the sticker which contains the information that this book is not lost but it is a part of the World Library. Theoretically, a person, who finds the book, should enter the Russian bookcrossers web-site http://www.bookcrossing.ru/ and should leave the information where he or she found it, and what they think of it. After having read it they are supposed to pass it over to another person or leave it at any bookcrossing centre.
Bookcrossing changes people's attitudes to reading and books.
We prepared novels by American writers and books about famous Americans such as Michael Jackson and Barack Obama for this activity. Our volunteers left the books in local cafes, hospitals and youth centers. We gave a great deal of books to the American club of Pomor State University. We hope that these books will find new readers in Arkhangelsk and will inspire people to be bookcrossers.
