On October 17th there was a movie night at the American Corner. The movie offered for watching this time was a documentary entitled "Super Size Me" - one of the best contemporary examples of its genre, an Academy Award winner (2005).
The outline of the movie follows a very peculiar experiment: the author and director Morgan Spurlock voluntarily limited his diet to solely the meals served at Mc Donalds. For the sake of experiment (and for that matter, attempting to be an average customer) he was to agree to supersize his servings everytime he was offered that option. As a result of his experiment, Morgan gained over 10 kg (4.5 pounds) and developed multiple health conditions.
"Super Size Me" is not only a truthful and mind-altering story about the value of healthy nutrition, but it's also a provocative project, an unprecedented example of reverse advertising aimed at the fast food industry that encourages the production of low-quality meals for the purpose of obtaining larger profits.
The movie was followed by a heated discussion with the audience. The event was hosted by a FLEX alumna Aleksandra Ivanova.
