On August 12 at the Center for International Information and the American Corner of Perm Regional Gorky Library hosted a Meeting on a Public Diplomacy with Dr. Vladislav Krasnov, a devoted keeper of Russian tradition on the American continent.
Dr. Vladislav Krasnov is an American scholar and social activist, Ph.D., author of multiple publications, also known as W. George Krasnow. He is the Head of Society of Russian-American friendship "Good Will" in Washington, founded in 1992. (www.raga.org).
The meeting began with a presentation of two movies about the fate of the immigrant Jon Utley and his family. Both movies were shot in connection with the extraordinary adventures of an American in search of the place of his father’s last rest. Jon Utley’s father, a Soviet citizen Arcadiy Berdichevsky was sentenced in 1936 to 5 years in labor camp for "Trotskyism" and then executed on March 30,1938 for leading a hunger strike. The movies were donated to the Executive Director of the Museum of Political Repressions "Perm-36" Ms. Tatiana Kursina.
As an introduction to the story of Dr. Krasnov the American Corner team showed the presentation "Russia and the United States. The era of change: from propaganda to dialogue" (See our report on the “Pilorama” International Forum: http://amcorners.ru/news/news1812/). Dr. Krasnov told about himself and answered the patrons’ questions. American Corner presented an exhibition of books on the development of relations between our countries recently available at the Library.
