On Monday at 6 pm, Irkuts AC hosted a US Embassy Officer Julia Manevich who talked about American-Russian relations.

Julia started her conversation with her own history. She told us how her family immigrated to the USA, where she got her education, how she started working on the US Embassy in Moscow.

Ms. Manevich told us what she thought about political relations between our two countries. She emphasized the importance of our collaboration in all spheres of life, from political to economic to every-day aspects of it. She praised the progress in our relations, the progress which could not be imagined, say, 5 years ago. Now Russia and USA agree on most of the important issues of politics and one can see that the countries are going together and are doing a lot to help each other.

She also asked questions about what we, the Russians, think about USA and its politics; how the elections in Russia are going to be and what we thought about our candidates. Then the free discussion followed, we just asked her different questions about USA today and she tried to find out about our lives here in Irkutsk. She told us that although she works in Moscow, she is eager to know how life goes on in different distant parts of Russia as well.
