26.01.2012 | ...about the USA
Two FLEX alumni, Yuliya Glinina and Olga Novikova, who recently returned from the USA, met school students of the Vologda school # 8 on January, 26.
During the academic year the girls studied at American schools and lived in host families. Although Yulia stayed in southern state Arizona and Olga – in northern Wisconsin, both still keep very warm impressions of their trips. Alumni told about their life in the USA, about peculiarities of American educational system, and of course about ‘cultural shock’ which they experienced twice – in the USA and, then, in their home country after return.
Yulia showed her video clips with farewell wishes of her American teachers, so the audience could listen to the native speakers.
There were many questions: about competition for the FLEX program, about difficulties with English in the USA, about day-to-day life across the ocean. The audience also was interested where the level of school education is higher.
Because of frost school students put on their coats in cold auditorium, but they attentively listened to the alumni.
Fulbright alumna Elena Yushkova told about another exchange programs answering the questions.
The event was attended by two girls from Cherepovets who learned about it from the web-site of American corners.
