Dennis Utterbuck a visiting Embassy Science Fellow gives a talk for the AC patrons in Volgograd on Thursday. Dennis officially works for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in Washington, DC. He is also a member of a workgroup in the Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development (which Russia is seeking to join).
His visit to Volgograd was determined by the Research Institute of Hygiene, Toxicology and Occupational Pathology (RIHTOP) that does research in environmental effects of nanotechnology. We were glad to invite him to present a talk about this revolutionary, transformative, powerful, and potentially very dangerous—or beneficial—technology for our patrons too.
Nanotechnology is the science of building devices from individual atoms and molecules, which has applications in industries from consumer electronics to health care and environmental management. There were lots of questions asked about the future perspectives of the nanotechnology development; will it be heavily restricted, or widely available ; and what role Russia will play in a world nanotechnology market.
