While at a ceremony at the Elbe River, in April, 1985 Don Cole, a veteran of World War II, presented Soviet officials a resolution passed by the Cleveland City Council expressing Cleveland's interest in developing a partnership relationship. Volgograd invited Cleveland Partner Cities to send a delegation to Volgograd to start this process.
Since then there were lots of various mutually beneficial for both cities events happened both in Volgograd and Cleveland, but it never ended in developing sister Library relationships. That is why this visit has become a very important event for the American center and Volgograd Oblast Scientific Library.
Ken Kovach met with the Deputies Director Svetlana Kosovzeva and Elena Dmitrienko and enjoyed the treasures of the Rare Books department. There was a little surprise prepared for Ken Kovach when he met with the Community Connection alumni who visited Cleveland in March last year. The alumni shared their success stories with Mr. Kovach.
We strongly believe that Mr. Kovach visit is only the beginning in furthering the development of beneficial relationships based on the sisters cities connections.
