Vologda - On February 11, 2009 AC in Vologda hosted an event devoted to the Library Lovers’ Month. Together with an English teacher Victoria Maslova we arranged a workshop for 11-graders from secondary school № 30.
AC coordinator provided a tour of Vologda Regional Library for the students and told them about the AC and its recourses. Then the visitors discussed the role of dictionaries in reading literature in foreign languages.A Power Point Presentation on various dictionaries was shown to the English learners.
Then the teacher explained the students how to work with “Dictionary of Etymology”, “A dictionary of American idioms”, “The Oxford Dictionary of Phrase, Saying and Quotation” and “The Encyclopedia of American facts and dates” and gave them some tasks. The teenagers found etymological meaning of some words, defined the meaning of idioms, worked with quotations and facts. They liked this activity very much and displayed eagerness to come and work here again.
