Tomsk.Presenting To Kill a Mockingbird
22.01.2010 | American Literature Year in Tomsk going on.
The final of the regional contest for high school students on American Literature was held at Pushkin Regional Library. The participants – 11 teams from Tomsk and Tomsk region came and gathered in the library conference hall despite of January frosty weather that has set in. They presented in their own way the famous books by great American authors. Different scenes appeared on the stage – New York in O’ Henry’s time, the American South of the 1950th from To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, the times of the Civil war from Little Women by M.L. Alcott and others. Many presentations included acting, singing, citing the original text. The jury gave the high assessment of the student’s presentations. The highest marks were obtained by the teams from Tomsk school # 40, Podgornoye school, and Tomsk school # 29. The marks the teams got were added to the balls obtained in the 1st tour of the contest. As a result the team from Seversk school # 198 gained the 3rd place, the team from Podgornoe – the 2nd place, the team from Tomsk school # 40 became the winner of the contest. Besides the books of great American authors and brochures about American literature and culture and also the certificates signed by the officer from US Embassy in Moscow, the winners of the contest got the digital cameras and MP3-players.
Those who visited that event could also enjoy the display of the paintings-illustrations to the famous American books created by Tomsk school students.
