On May 20th Saratov American Corner held Gala Concert of English Song Festival. This year's Festival was dedicated to songs from famous American movies. The program of the Concert included 17 performances by high school and university students from Saratov and Saratov Oblast. All of them had successfully passed two previous rounds of the festival and showed their talents at the final show. At the end of the concert all winners recieved memorable prizes. |

Nowadays people are so engrossed in games, sports, music and other forms of entertainment that going to a library as an enjoyable pastime has been practically forgotten. |

Most of us go to the movies to have fun: to laugh, cry, cheer, be scared, thrilled, or simply to be amused for a few hours. But movies are something more than just an evening’s entertainment. They are also historical documents that help us see and more fully understand the world in which they were made. Movies teach us how to think about race, gender, class, ethnicity, and politics. |

This season American Corner will host Conversation Club meetings in a new, more lively format.
As of March 2, people who are interested in current events, social and community affairs and would like to share their views, discuss significant problems and improve their English are welcome to take part in our weekly DEBATE CLUB meetings every Wednesday at 17:30.

Every February 14, across the United States and in other places around the world, candy, flowers and gifts are exchanged between loved ones, all in the name of St. Valentine. But the most remarkable tradition of St. Valentine’s Day is the practice of giving out handwritten or manufactured notes – Valentine cards. |
