01.06.2010 | American Literature heroes through children's eyes

On International Children’s Day children drawing exhibition on books of American writers was opened in Tomsk State University Library. This exhibition closes the program “American Literature Year in Tomsk” which Tomsk American Center held last academic year using the Small Alumni Grant from the US Embassy.

04.05.2010 | “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” celebration in Tomsk

In the second semester of the current academic year Tomsk American Center hold the competition on Frank Baum’s book “The Wizard of Oz” for 5 and 8 grades. For two months fourteen teams have been searching answers to the quiz on this book. The best 5 teams met on 26 of April in the Pushkin Regional Library to compete in the second tour of the contest.
40th Anniversary of Earth Day

22.04.2010 | Earth Day at Tomsk AC

On April 22 a new book and magazine exhibition «40th Anniversary of Earth Day» was organized at Tomsk American Center. This day CNN documentary films about the condition of the environment were showed and then current ecological problems were discussed at the English Speaking Club.Besides general questions, the participants discussed personal attitude to the present environmental conditions and what we can really change in it.

02.04.2010 | American Humor Day in Tomsk

First of April in Tomsk AC was opened with the demonstration of the funniest comedy of all times SOME LIKE IT HOT and ended with the showing of comedy/musical MAMMA MIA.On the book exhibition «Go ahead and laugh!» there are exposed different books on the American humor, many fiction books from Mark Twain to modern writers works. On the second floor of the host library everybody can see on the stands best caricatures from the popular magazine “The New Yorker”. And the central event of the day was the Humor party. Students came to the American center and learned lot of interesting facts about the origin of April 1st, about humor in common and about American humor in particular.
