In the second semester of the current academic year Tomsk American Center hold the competition on Frank Baum’s book “The Wizard of Oz” for 5 and 8 grades. For two months fourteen teams have been searching answers to the quiz on this book and have been translating the song “Over the Rainbow” from this story Hollywood version. The best 5 teams met on 26 of April in the Pushkin Regional Library to compete in the second tour of the contest. All who gathered that day in the library could feel the atmosphere of the Emerald City, green flags were hung everywhere and pictures with the main characters decorated the hall. Second tour participants answered the questions on Frank Baum’s biography, solved the crosswords, took part in funny contests, made the presentations of the major characters and performed their favorite scenes from the book.

School №40 took the first place and became the winner for the second time. In the contest “American Literature Year” for High Schools this school also took the first prize. Therefore their purposefulness, artistry, good knowledge of English language and American literature brought them two Grand Prix from American Embassy - two photo cameras! Other participants also received good prizes and certificates. That day the results of the illustration contest for high school students on books of American writers were also announced. In the end everybody with great pleasure run to the table with green sweets as it should be in the Emerald City.
