07.05.2010 | Devoted to the Victory

On the 29th of April American Center together with the Yekaterinburg Mayor’s Library held an event “the Allies”, devoted to the 65th Anniversary of the Victory. We invited the Second World War veterans, US Consulate officers and USG programs Alumni. Tim Sandusky - US Consulate General in Yekaterinburg delivered an opening speech. He emphasized decisive role of the Soviet Army in the destruction of fascism and thanked Urals’ front-line soldiers for their courage and heroism. Other topics discussed during the event were Lend-Lease and meeting of Russian and US troops at the Elbe River. Consul Chris Barnes told a story of his father, who fought on aircraft carrier. This event also included short movie demonstration; the movie was created by an American high-school student for his History class, and it describes Normandy invasion and opening a Second front in Europe. The movie provoked genuine interest to the subject especially from the young participants. “The Allies” meeting was concluded with a casual conversation between Russian and American representatives.
